Description
Fireworks in the Peafield Corner (edited by Irvine Rutledge). Clinton, NJ: The Amwell Press, 1986. xviii, 358 pages. Hardbound. Illustrated (numerous sketches by wildlife artist Steve Thomas, plus a striking color photo of the well-known portrait of Rutledge seated next to a tree at Hampton along with lovely color photo of the plantation home at Hampton). Limited edition of 1000 signed (by Rutledge, the publisher, and the artist) with this being copy #852. Bound in full leather with raise hubs, all edges gilt, silk endpapers, ribbon marker, gilt on spine and front, and in a slipcase. Fine copy in very good plus slipcase. This is a collection of what Irvine, Rutledge’s youngest son, considered his father’s finest work—mostly hunting stories with a few poems and occasional comments by the editor. It is, as the title page says, a “Treasury” of Rutledge’s work. $250.
