Jake Jacobson, a resident of rural Alaska since 1967 has held Alaska Master Guide license #54 since 1984. Jake came to Alaska as an Indian Health Service itinerant dentist traveling to bush villages for two years, then he traveled throughout Alaska as a private dentist for 18 years.He speaks American, Spanish and can get by in German.
Jake began guiding as an Assistant Guide n 1967, has flown as a Commercial Instrument rated pilot since 1970,accumulating over 10,000 hours as pilot in command of single engine bush planes. He logged hours in Africa, Australia, New Zealand & Bolivia.
He holds a 100 Ton Mariner's Captain license, with service primarily in the Gulf of Alaska, the Bering Sea and Kodiak Archipelago waters. Jake fished commercially for herring, crab, halibut and salmon.
Jake has filmed and produced dozens of promotional films and videos in Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia & several African countries.
Jake lived in Kotzebue, Alaska located 37 miles north of the Arctic Circle for 20 years. He returns to his lodge 118 miles north of Kotzebue to conduct big game hunts and fishing trips during August and September annually. He resides for the rest of the year in Kodiak, Alaska. Jake is owner and founder of Arctic Rivers Guide & Booking Service.
After years of scribbling down highlights of events, Jake began writing stories for magazines, then finally published his first book: "ALASKA HUNTING: Earthworms to Elephants" in 2013. In the fall of 2014 he released his second collection of short stories: "ALASKA TALES: Laughs and Surprises." ALASKA FLYING: Surviving Incidents & Accidents was published in 2016.ALASKA BEARS: Shaken and Stirred was released in 2017 & KODIAK, ALASKA DEER: Stories, Sterility & Stewardship came out in 2018.
Jake has several more books in the works, including one about his high school summers working on a ranch in Montana where he used teams of horses for haying and other work.
